DIY Wild Bird Egg Decor

14 Mar
This is actually an old tutorial that I posted for my friend Bella of Bella Before and After.  I recently came across it and thought it would be nice to post it again for all of my wonderful readers!  And with Easter and Spring right around the corner, what better time then now!!

So….here ya go! 🙂

I am IN LOVE with all these beautiful blue eggs I have seen in stores and all over blogland!  I decided to make some of my own.  I was quite lucky, as I had some left over turquoise blue and brown paint from my Cutting Edge Stencils Project!  Did you see that project??  I’m still so amazed at how great it turned out!

So, I grabbed a bag of eggs from the Dollar Tree and rushed home.
 I started painting my eggs.

I painted each side and let it dry.
Now, I planned on putting an extra coat on the eggs, but after I saw the way it dried I really liked the imprefect look of it.  I think it made the eggs look a little more like wild bird eggs.
Then I added the brown dots.  I googled what kind of birds lay blue eggs with brown dots and I found that Chipping Sparrows lay those kind of eggs.
This is what happens when you get overly excited and start playing with your eggs before they are totally dry.  See the lil chips?  I can tell you this, if you just let them dry over night the paint does not peel off.  My husband and I both thought that maybe the paint would continue to peel because of the type of paint it was and the plastic of the eggs.  It doesn’t peel!

I decided to add them to a wreath of blossoms I have in our hallway.  This is the wreath before.  I scored it at Target on clearance for around $4!  Seriously, who isn’t crazy in love with Target!?!
I have somehow misplaced my floral wire.  I looked everywhere.  I was a bit distraught when my super helpful hubby told me “just use the twist ties”.  I said “twisty ties?”, sounds cuter right?  So, I opened up the eggs carefully.  This is also how I know they don’t chip or peel.  I placed the twisty tie in the egg like so.
Closed up the eggs.
I attached the eggs to the branches.

And VIOLA!!  I have a new Easter Wreath!  Pretty cool huh?
I love it!!!

AND THEN….. I framed it!  And now I love it EVEN MORE!!

Cutting Edge Stencils Winner

3 Jan
I hope everyone had a great New Years!!  We did.  We spent it with my brother and his wife Julie (FUTURE BLOGGING QUEEN) and sweet ‘lil Jayden!  We were SO excited to be able to do fireworks.  AZ finally OK’d them with certain restrictions.  Then Goodyear decided to throw a quick “Nope! No fireworks here” clause and so we were limited to a few sparklers.  My brother and hubby got “gutsy” and decided to light just one fountain in the backyard.  OF COURSE it was the “screaming popping goes on for 5 minutes long” kind.  We all quickly ran inside and turned off every light in the house!!  We did have a blast being together.
I know you can hardly see it BUT I am wearing my puffy down jacket.  I haven’t pulled that jacket out of the closet in over 2 years.  It was 28 degrees this night in AZ! WOW huh?
I have already begun the Valentines Day craft and jewelry adventure.  I have discovered being a blogger puts you on the same schedule as department stores, malls, Walmart, Target, the HSN!!  My friend Sunny told me this.  I have been making fabric rosettes, felt rosettes and jewelry.  My sister Kari got me a TON of awesome beads and things in perfect Valentines colors.  I can’t wait to show y’all!!
What?  You want a sneak peek?  Well…..OK 🙂
I have some much more planned.  I’m so excited.  I love all this craftiness and blog fun!!!  Thanks ladies!  You continuously inspire me!

OK! So, the winner……………

Please email me so I can get your info to Cutting Edge Stencils!
If I don’t hear from you in 48 hours I will have to choose a new winner.

Cutting Edge Stencil Product Review

28 Dec

This is what I did with my Cutting Edge Stencil.

I’m sure you’ve seen all the wonderful stenciled walls all over “blogland” Here are just a few that I love!

Photo from Kaysi’s blog Keeping It Simple
Photo from Kate’s blog Centsational Girl
Photo from Megan’s blog Honey We’re Home

I’ve been aching to decorate our home. My free-hand artistic abilities are limited to stick figures. So, when I saw how many different stencils Cutting Edge Stencils offered I got SO EXCITED.

They have Branches and Birds.
Medallions and Borders.
All over Damask
Wall Pattern Kits
All over Trellis kits
Fossils that you can paint or
add plaster for texture

And they have so much more…..

When Cutting Edge Stencils asked me if I would be interested in doing a product review I squealed and did a happy dance while replying “YES YES YES THANK YOU!!”
I chose the Spring Songbirds Wall Art Stencil Kit.

We decided to use it on our kitchen wall. This is the before pic.
I painted the back wall a beautiful Turquoise blue. My sweet hubby even helped. We used Traditional Brown for the base color of the stencil and Malted Milk for highlighting.
Once the paint dried we secured the stencil on the wall and painted the base coat with the Dense Foam Roller Cutting Edge Stencils provided me.
Then we added highlights to the stencil with a stencil brush. By the way those are my hubby’s man hands!

Are you ready to see the After pic???

 TA DA!!!!!!!!

Isn’t it just AMAZING!! I am ABSOLUTELY in love with it.
I can’t wait to add more here and there around the house.

David turned one of the birds in to a Cardinal. How beautiful is this guy!!?

This is what it looks like with just the under the cabinet lights on.

Doesn’t it look wonderful.

The stencil was SO EASY to use. It was strong, sturdy and easy to secure to the wall. Once the paint drys on the stencil it peels right off. You can use them again and again! My sister and sister in law are already in line to borrow it! I’m just so excited over how easy, fast and simple this was to do. It’s made our kitchen look like a million bucks!

Cutting Edge Stencils is GRACIOUSLY giving one AliLilly follower a $40 credit to their store!!

Thanks so much to Cutting Edge Stencils for this great giveaway and thanks Y’ALL for stopping by.

I was given the Spring Songbirds Stencil and Dense Foam Roller for review purposes. No other compensation was received. The opinions stated here are my own and have in no way been influenced by Cutting Edge Stencils.

I will be sharing this at these WONDERFUL Link Parties!
