DIY Wild Bird Egg Decor

14 Mar
This is actually an old tutorial that I posted for my friend Bella of Bella Before and After.  I recently came across it and thought it would be nice to post it again for all of my wonderful readers!  And with Easter and Spring right around the corner, what better time then now!!

So….here ya go! 🙂

I am IN LOVE with all these beautiful blue eggs I have seen in stores and all over blogland!  I decided to make some of my own.  I was quite lucky, as I had some left over turquoise blue and brown paint from my Cutting Edge Stencils Project!  Did you see that project??  I’m still so amazed at how great it turned out!

So, I grabbed a bag of eggs from the Dollar Tree and rushed home.
 I started painting my eggs.

I painted each side and let it dry.
Now, I planned on putting an extra coat on the eggs, but after I saw the way it dried I really liked the imprefect look of it.  I think it made the eggs look a little more like wild bird eggs.
Then I added the brown dots.  I googled what kind of birds lay blue eggs with brown dots and I found that Chipping Sparrows lay those kind of eggs.
This is what happens when you get overly excited and start playing with your eggs before they are totally dry.  See the lil chips?  I can tell you this, if you just let them dry over night the paint does not peel off.  My husband and I both thought that maybe the paint would continue to peel because of the type of paint it was and the plastic of the eggs.  It doesn’t peel!

I decided to add them to a wreath of blossoms I have in our hallway.  This is the wreath before.  I scored it at Target on clearance for around $4!  Seriously, who isn’t crazy in love with Target!?!
I have somehow misplaced my floral wire.  I looked everywhere.  I was a bit distraught when my super helpful hubby told me “just use the twist ties”.  I said “twisty ties?”, sounds cuter right?  So, I opened up the eggs carefully.  This is also how I know they don’t chip or peel.  I placed the twisty tie in the egg like so.
Closed up the eggs.
I attached the eggs to the branches.

And VIOLA!!  I have a new Easter Wreath!  Pretty cool huh?
I love it!!!

AND THEN….. I framed it!  And now I love it EVEN MORE!!

Pottery Barn Inspired Wreath

23 Nov

I just LOVE this wreath here from Pottery Barn.

Source

But $79 is WAY outta my price range for a wreath!  So, I did like any good crafting blogger and headed straight to Dollar Tree!!  I got 3 packs of ornaments but didn’t find a wreath large enough.  I did fine one at Walmart. 20 inches for only $2.48!!  Not to bad huh?

Now, if you look closely a few of the ornaments on the PB wreath have swirly glittery circles.  I dug out my glitter glue and made a few for my wreath.

Then I started to attach the ornaments with twist ties.

What do y’all think??  I love it!!
Thanks for stopping by!!

Halloween Ribbon Topiary

26 Sep

This cute little Halloween ribbon topiary is super easy to make!  I followed the tutorial here.   Found the cute Halloween ribbon here

I didn’t have as much ribbon as needed.  Which is why mine it’s a perfect little fluffy ball, BUT I still love it. I spray painted a little terracotta planter, some floral moss from the dollar store and a straw black.  Then hot glued my ball of ribbons onto the straw.  SO EASY!!

Super cute right??

Super Fun, Cute and Inexpensive Party Garland

9 Jun

Y’all know I love gettin’ creative with tissue paper.  Of course, I got creative for Alie’s party.  Financially speaking, I wasn’t able to give her the party I dreamt off.  Really who can, if you aren’t Jennifer Lopez!  I made EVERYTHING for her party.  Even the cake!!  Did you see the cake!!!  I’m so proud!!!  I’m not much of a cake decorator, either!!

Alie’s Rainbow Cake
Alie’s Rainbow Cake

Alie Marie LOVED her cake!!  She loved her party!

For this fun garland I used a tissue paper pack of pastel colors for the dollar store, some hot glue and twine.

I used a few cups from Alie’s various kitchen sets.  I traced out circles in all the colors.  I hot glued, just a tiny dab, 3 tissue paper circles in each size.  Three of the largest on bottom, then three of the middle circle and finally three of the smallest circle.  Then I glued all the “dots” onto the twine.  I actually measured out and marked where I would glue each “dot” so that it would be nice and even.

SO easy, right??

This is what it looked like at her party!

It also makes a super cute photo background!!

Having sliced cheese always helps!

Isn’t she just the cutest!!!  I love my sweet biddy bee!

Wanna know how to make these lil cuties??

I guest posted the tutorial on my bestie Kassi’s blog!  Go check it out HERE!! 🙂

Sweet and Easy Easter Egg Flower Pots

1 Apr
This is yet ANOTHER fun craft you can do with your kids.  My sweet Alie helped me with this one!
For this I found the pots at Target in their SUPER GREAT Dollar Spot section!  The foam, eggs and moss are from Dollar Tree.
It wasn’t until I got home that I discovered the foam was just a bit too big for the pot!
No worries, I hacked away until it fit.  This also helped me with the smaller pot too.  I was able to use a chunk of the foam in that pot.
I had some old puff paint and decided to add some cute dots to the yellow pot.
Now, the larger eggs came on sticks but the smaller ones did not.  I had this laying around in a craft box.  My husband told me to keep it, thinking I may need it for something.  He was right!  I cut the sticks from this and stuck them in the smaller eggs.  I think this may have been the second time he’s been right this year.  That HAS to be a record!
Alie and I took the eggs and stuck them in the foam in the pots. Then we filled the pots with moss.
And now in the words of our sweet Alie, “DAH DAH (tah dah)!!!!”
That’s it!!  How easy was that!?!  And aren’t they just so cute!

Thanks for stopping by!

Paper Rosette Shamrock

3 Mar
I am totally loving this tissue paper rosette kick I am on!  For starters, it is SUPER cheap!  If you have a bunch of red and green tissue paper left over from Christmas, you are good to go for Valentine’s Day and St. Patty’s Day.  Even if you don’t have tissue paper, it’s super cheap.  The Dollar Tree has a lot of different colors to choose from.  So, once you have the whole rosette making skills down, you can do this for ANY holiday!  I LOVE the way they look and they are really easy to make.  I have a tutorial here that I did for Valentine’s Day that will walk you through the “how-to’s” of making a paper rosette.  Now, for this shamrock I cut three hearts out of an empty cereal box, cut out a stem.  Glued some green tissue paper onto the hearts and stem.  Then glued all the rosettes onto the heart and pieced it all together on the paper.  So EASY right?

This paper rosette shamrock was TOTALLY FREE.  It’s just left over Christmas tissue paper and some scrap paper I had in a drawer.  I originally planned to hang it on the wall in Alie’s room without a paper backing, but I really like the way it looks on this bluish-green paper.
I am in the process of “Spring-i-fying” my faux mantel, so for now I have placed the shamrock up on the wall above my mantel.  It would look great in a frame wouldn’t it? If only I had one. {insert pouty face here}

I have a funny and frugal story behind those ‘lil mason jars.  They first looked like this for Valentine’s day.
Now, for the funny story.  I’m taking the clothes out of the washing machine and placing them into the dryer.  One of Alie’s blankets snags in the washer and this long string starts to pull out.  I pull it all the way out, wad it up, throw it to the side and finish up what I am doing.  Once I’m done, I walk to the trash while looking down at this string.  It’s this pretty, bright, crisp green that reminds me of spring and so I held on to it.  I used some of it here.  I took off my cute ‘lil paper hearts then twisted the green string around the twine and re wrapped the mason jars.  And VOILA!  Spring time mason jar candles!  I think they are super cute!

This pretty ‘lil flower pot with butterfly is from the Dollar Tree.  How pretty is that huh?  I just love it.  They have many different colors to choose from too.  So, when you’re at the Dollar Tree picking up tissue paper for your tissue paper rosettes, make sure you grab one of these pretties!
I chose purple because purple is my Mommy’s favorite color and I miss her terribly.  She is in Texas and I am way out here in AZ.  I have needed her lately.  I have been going through some hormonal imbalance issues and have had a tough time doing anything.  Note the lack of blog posts the past month!  I was depressed, grumpy, moody, mean, impatient, tired and I “boo-hoo’ed” a lot over things like burning rice!!  I remembered when I went on some Chinese Fertility herbs to get pregnant with Alice (you can read more about that here) they made me feel great!  AND after 5 years on everything Western medicine could give us I was pregnant just 2 months after starting the pills!  So, it goes without saying that I am a FIRM believer in herbs.  I looked up herbs for hormonal imbalance and I found that Dong Quai, Red Raspberry Leaf, Black Cohosh and Vitex help balance you.  I have a bottle of Female Complex from Nature’s Answer that contains all of these.  4 days in, I have to say I feel GREAT.  This shamrock is the first thing I have made since the first week of Feb!  It feels great to be back!  I wanted to pass this info along to you in case any of you out there are feeling a’lil bit “out of whack”

Thanks so much for stopping by and I would love to hear what think of my shamrock!!

P.S. I would like to share this ‘lil tid bit with y’all too. Glade has a new Spring Collection. They have a scent called Sparkle of Spring. Ladies…..It. Is. WONDERFUL!! I love it! Go get you some!!!

Our 1st Arizona Christmas Tree

10 Dec
If you know me, you know I am a born and raised Texan. My husband, my step daughter and our daughter were born there, too. We have lived in Arizona for just over a year and this is our FIRST Christmas, by ourselves in Arizona. Last year we shared an apartment with my brother, his new wife Julie ( I have to tell y’all about Julie someday. She is an AMAZINGLY crafty mommy who NEEDS to blog) and their BRAND NEW SON! Everyone say “HAPPY 1ST BIRTHDAY JAYDEN!!”

In the past we have always gotten a live tree. We learned last year that out in AZ it is HARD to keep your tree alive. There is NO HUMIDITY here! Yes, I have GREAT HAIR!!! We got ourselves a simple artificial lighted tree. We chose multi colored lights for Alie. She LOVES them. We only had a couple ornaments. We left most of our belongings back in Texas. Much of what I’m going to share with y’all is brand new!!

I made these lil rosette snowmen for our tree. The other one was going to be a snowman, but I didn’t quite size the rosettes right. So, I attached to a head band and Alie loves to wear it.

Have you seen these adorable ornaments at Dollar Tree?? How cute is this guy? You get 3 for $1, how great is that?

They had these too!
We got this one for Alie.
David bought me this one. Sweet right?? 🙂
We brought Marli’s sterling silver and jeweled M.
This one came with us from Houston.
David, Alie and I all had fun one evening at a GCU festival, collecting pine cones. I added them all over the tree with a little floral wire. I just love how they look!
I can’t tell y’all how happy Gizmo is to have a tree skirt to sleep on again! 🙂

What do y’all think of our first AZ Christmas Tree? I love it. Alie loves it. Daddy loves it. OH! I discovered if you take that long ornament hook and just wind it around a branch then your ornaments don’t end up in things like the refrigerator, drawers or toy boxes!!

WE HAVE A WINNER!
Thanks to everyone who entered. It makes me sad to see how many of you entered and how hard you tried to win some of my jewelry. I wish I could give everyone a piece but what I CAN DO is give y’all a code that would give you 50% of your purchase at my AliLilly Etsy Shop. Email me at amiallison73 at yahoo dot com and I will give you the 50% off purchase code.

NOW……our winner!

You HAVE to see how gorgeous that pic is. I hope you don’t mind, Kassi!!

Gorgeous right?!!

CONGRATULATIONS KASSI!!!
