A Colorful Christmas Tree

13 Dec

Having Alice in our lives now has David and I think of our own childhoods.  We want to bring all of our happiest memories back and for her.  Remember back then?  How colorful Christmas was?  Colorful trees, colorful ornaments, decorations and lights.  My grandpa put up those big colorful C9 lights every year.  My hubby and I both decided next Christmas we wanted to put up the same C9 lights.  This year we have the ever so popular icicle lights on our house.  I love them!!  But seeing our home next year covered in lights that take me back to my childhood would be so nice.

We decided last year to get a multi colored lighted tree and this year I love it even more.  It makes me feel nostalgic.  Alice absolutely loves it too.  She was such a wonderful helper.  She had a group of ornaments on the bottom of the tree that were all on one branch.  When I started to spread them out she got very upset.  Brokenhearted upset!  She told me that those ornaments were a family and had to stay together.  Oh, how I love my sweet little girl! *happy sigh*  This is her with her family of ornaments.

Christmas tree close up.

Our tree!  You can see her lil family of ornaments is still there.

Thanks for stopping by!

Our Pretty Christmas Mantel

7 Dec

My Christmas Mantel this year was so easy to put together.  I added some lighted garland,  a few new tissue paper trees,  a few candles,  hanging ornaments, nut crackers, some pine cones and a re-decorated wreath.
I found an old wreath in my mom’s garage. Took everything off of it.  I then added some cute Santa ribbon she had to it and a few new Christmas pics.

I added a cardinal at the top in honor of my Grandma.  She passed away a few months back and she absolutely loved cardinals.

Now, the plug from my lighted garland was hanging out looking like a big brown eye sore!

I found a few of these doo-dads (they are called doo-dads when the hubby isn’t around to properly name them for me)!!

And VIOLA, no more ugly brown cord sticking out!!

Here are a few more pictures of our mantel.

So, what do y’all think??

Christmas Decorating with Tissue Paper

13 Dec
I got a TON of wonderful feedback on my Tissue Paper Christmas Trees!
Thanks y’all, it really made me feel special.  It was a super fugal project too.  I used printer paper for the cones and had a bunch of left over tissue paper stuff in the “wrapping paper” drawer.
So, I decided to make a wreath.
I actually used cut up junk mail to make the circle and just glued the tissue paper on it.  I glued darker pieces of tissue paper to give it that “holly” feel.  Then I glued on some red wood beads for the berries.
We got these ADORABLE stockings at Target for $2 each!!
BUT they didn’t quite match the “theme” of my Christmas Mantel
So, I decided to make a tissue paper garland strip/mantel/thing-a-mah-bob.  To “hang” our stockings from.  I cut up some more mail and made a tissue paper garland strip and placed it under the wreath.

What do you think of my frugally way to decorate a blank wall and give our stockings a new home for Christmas??

I had to share this CUTE moment I captured the day I made the tissue paper wreath and garland.  Alie is hanging out on couch with Elmo and Gizmo (she calls him Ess-go).  The three of them were watching Elf. How sweet is that!!

Our 1st Arizona Christmas Tree

10 Dec
If you know me, you know I am a born and raised Texan. My husband, my step daughter and our daughter were born there, too. We have lived in Arizona for just over a year and this is our FIRST Christmas, by ourselves in Arizona. Last year we shared an apartment with my brother, his new wife Julie ( I have to tell y’all about Julie someday. She is an AMAZINGLY crafty mommy who NEEDS to blog) and their BRAND NEW SON! Everyone say “HAPPY 1ST BIRTHDAY JAYDEN!!”

In the past we have always gotten a live tree. We learned last year that out in AZ it is HARD to keep your tree alive. There is NO HUMIDITY here! Yes, I have GREAT HAIR!!! We got ourselves a simple artificial lighted tree. We chose multi colored lights for Alie. She LOVES them. We only had a couple ornaments. We left most of our belongings back in Texas. Much of what I’m going to share with y’all is brand new!!

I made these lil rosette snowmen for our tree. The other one was going to be a snowman, but I didn’t quite size the rosettes right. So, I attached to a head band and Alie loves to wear it.

Have you seen these adorable ornaments at Dollar Tree?? How cute is this guy? You get 3 for $1, how great is that?

They had these too!
We got this one for Alie.
David bought me this one. Sweet right?? 🙂
We brought Marli’s sterling silver and jeweled M.
This one came with us from Houston.
David, Alie and I all had fun one evening at a GCU festival, collecting pine cones. I added them all over the tree with a little floral wire. I just love how they look!
I can’t tell y’all how happy Gizmo is to have a tree skirt to sleep on again! 🙂

What do y’all think of our first AZ Christmas Tree? I love it. Alie loves it. Daddy loves it. OH! I discovered if you take that long ornament hook and just wind it around a branch then your ornaments don’t end up in things like the refrigerator, drawers or toy boxes!!

WE HAVE A WINNER!
Thanks to everyone who entered. It makes me sad to see how many of you entered and how hard you tried to win some of my jewelry. I wish I could give everyone a piece but what I CAN DO is give y’all a code that would give you 50% of your purchase at my AliLilly Etsy Shop. Email me at amiallison73 at yahoo dot com and I will give you the 50% off purchase code.

NOW……our winner!

You HAVE to see how gorgeous that pic is. I hope you don’t mind, Kassi!!

Gorgeous right?!!

CONGRATULATIONS KASSI!!!

A New Christmas Mantel

1 Dec

OK, so it’s not your traditional mantel BUT the box did say Wall Mantel Shelf on it. Anyhow, my sweet hubby bought this for me. We have a bar that no matter how hard I try remains littered with sippy cups, keys, receipts, change, random Cheerios…..I could keep going but you get the picture.

I LOVE my new FAUX Mantel! David put it up while I bathed Alie and put her to bed, so I got to play with it afterward.

David found this AMAZING Nativity Set at Big Lots for just $14!! Isn’t it gorgeous. I just love it!
David also found that precious “Bless This Family” sign at Michael’s one evening while I stood staring blankly at a wall of jewelry beads for an embarrassing length of time! It was 60% off so we paid $4 for that!!

I saw these ADORABLE Tissue Paper Christmas Trees on the Spunky Junky blog. Halsey posted a GREAT tutorial on how to make these. Check out her tutorial and her awesome blog and tell her I said “HELLO”
These are my sweet trees I made using Halsey’s tutorial. Aren’t they awesome?  I LOVE THEM! I wanna make some for everyone now.

What do you think of my New Christmas faux Mantel? I love it! My hubby made a GREAT suggestion for the blank wall area just above it. I’ll keep it a surprise for now. It would be so much fun IF I can pull it off. Lets just say he thinks I have the same creative and artistic gifts as Donna with Funky Junk Interiors.

I’m linking this up to Layla’s Christmas Mantel Party. You have your mantels ready? Go link them up too.

Paper Christmas Decorations

22 Nov
I recently checked out a few Martha Stewart Christmas craft books from the library.  They are FULL of wonderful ideas and how-to’s.  I really loved the Paper Stars and Tassels she made.  I tried my hand at them and this is what I came up with.

Aren’t they great!!??
This is how I made them, with a little help from Martha.
I took some printer paper and construction paper and folded it according style like this.  You can use any kind of paper and it does not have to be a perfect square.  Rectangles work just fine as well.

Fold your paper in half like this to find the center.

Staple the center together.

Cut a design into the paper.
Carefully unfold and fan it out.  Tape all the ends together.
This is how I cut the red star.
I used two different colors for the tassel.  I glued the tops of the papers together with stick glue.  Then I cut strips leaving about an inch at the top uncut.
I rolled the tassel up and secured it with a piece of tape.  Then I added a small strip of the other color to the top of the tassel
I cut strips to make the chain.  I secured each link with tape.
When I attached the chain to the tassel (which is a bit tricky) I noticed that it was A LOT smaller and looked a bit odd.
So, when I made the red and green one I first measured with my hand like this to make sure I cut the strips about the same size.
I cut the strips to this size.
It worked!! They fit better this way.
So, what do you think?  I LOVE them and I especially love that they cost me NOTHING as I had all the supplies already!
