10 Faith Based Kids Crafts for Easter

15 Mar

I’m finding it a little bit challenging to teach my 3yr old what Easter really means.  Trying to distract her from the Easter bunny and coloring eggs with biblical lessons and literature is a just not working.  Go figure that one! HAHA!  I’m not sure that would work on a 13 yr old.  So, I’ve been looking for clever and crafty ideas to show her.  And I found some really great ideas that I would LOVE to share.

There she is, my precious girl!  See her cute painting?  I found that idea on Ministry to Children.  It is SUPER simple to do.  You take paper, using tape make a cross on the paper, hand your kids some water colors and have them paint around the cross, pull off the tape and you have a beautiful handmade piece of Easter art work to cherish forever!!  On the site there is a bit of discussion about the tape pealing off the paper or tearing because of being wet.  I found that if I used medium cardstock and let the painting dry before pealing the tape off it worked out perfectly.

NoBunny Loves You like Jesus
Over at Detail-Oriented Diva, Natalie has made some SUPER cute Christian based Easter basket fillers.  She made those cute NoBunny Loves You like Jesus goodie bags up there.  Now, I know these aren’t necessarily crafts but if you get your kids to help you make them as gifts….well then it’s a CRAFT!  She also made these…
Jesus Cares!
Be Fishers of Men
I love them!  It’s so hard to find faith based fillers for Easter baskets these days.  She includes jpg images so you can print your own labels and make these treat bags for your kids baskets too.  And she made a girl and boy version of each printable.

Resurrection Rolls

I’ve seen these before, heard of them but never made Resurrection Rolls.  This year I’m really excited to try this.  Alice is old enough now to understand the whats and whys of this project.  It’s the PERFECT time and I found a great post at Homegrown Mom for them.  It’s nicely detailed which is great for someone like me, who is making them for the first time.  I know, it seems simple enough right?  Especially for those of you that have made these.  But trust me, I can screw up boiling water!!  So, I greatly appreciate detail and explanation!!  She even gives her input and ideas in how she presents and works out the lessons involved.

Jelly Bean Prayer Easter Gift
At Mama Jenn I found another great idea.  You fill a jar full of jelly beans, attach the jelly bean Easter payer and you have a sweat and cute Easter gift that teaches you about the meaning of Easter.  Each color represents something specific about Easter.
Jelly Bean Cross Craft
And then I found the same idea but with a cross at Apples for Teachers.  You cut out a cross from paper then write or print the poem on the cross.  Then cut out cute little jelly bean shapes in all the colors of the poem and have your kids glue the jelly beans onto the cut out cross.

I also found at Mama Jenn this cute idea for a homemade Easter hat that is perfect to make with your kids.  She was inspired to make this with her daughter after reading two special Easter books about Easter Hats.  They made this sweet hat here from a paper plate, paper bowl, paint, ribbon, glue and fake flowers.

At My Bible Crafts, I found this cute New Creature Butterfly Card.  The site includes printables, instructions and ideas on how to talk about meaning of being a new creature in Christ while creating this card with your kids.
Last year Alie and I (mostly me) made this Tissue Paper Cross as an Easter decoration in her room.  This year, now that she’s a little holder I can’t wait to make some with her.  This is a fun craft to do with your kids and so I HAVE TO share it with y’all!! 🙂
If y’all have any other great ideas, posts or tutorials on faith based Easter crafts for kids I would LOVE to hear them.  Please share!!  I’m a newbie at this, so I need all the help I can get.  I was raised in a Muslim home (my dad COMPLETELY respects my decision to make Jesus my Lord and Savior) and I gave my life to Christ just 13 yrs ago.  Now that I’m raising Alice and teaching her about Jesus, I suddenly feel like I first opened my bible last week!!  It’s amazing the questions she will ask me about Jesus and it’s so disappointing when I stammer and stutter trying to find an answer.  So any help, advice or tips are highly welcome and appreciated.

I hope y’all love these ideas as much as I do!  I can’t wait to show you when Alie and I work on them together.

UPDATE!!  I found a few more great Easter ideas I wanted to share!!
At Mom On Timeout, Trish shares how to make these awesome Coin Covered PAID IN FULL Crosses!
And at This Little Project, Jedda shares several Faith Based Easter Craft projects

My Holiday Home!

21 Dec

I’m so excited to show y’all this!  I’ve been itching to do a post about it.  Just haven’t had much time.  BUT, I found a few hours and by the hair of my chiny chin chin I think I’ll make it to The Nester’s 2011 Christmas Tour of Homes!! SQUEAL!!!!

Ya see, this is our first HOUSE with Alice!  We lost our home in 06 to a house fire and have since lived in apartments.  Which is TOTALLY FINE!  It’s just this is our first home.  I didn’t do anything to extravagant.  But everything we’ve done seems extravagant to us.  Even more important is Alice is just in LOVE with our holiday home.
This is the entry way.You can see the tutorial on how to make that Burlap and Pine Garland here. It’s SUPER SIMPLE!

This Baby’s 1st Christmas Tree is Alie’s. We’ve put it up for her each year.  It’s her first Christmas tradition!

I decorated the top of this hall chest and added a few stockings on the wall.  My friend Kassi with Truly Lovely has an easy and awesome tutorial on how to turn an ordinary candle into a Christmas candle!  You can see how I used that here

Here is our tree.  Alie helped me decorate it.  I think she did a GREAT job!!

You’ll have to check out this post here to read about Alie’s ornament family!!

Our tree at night
Our mantel.
I made this wreath. See the cardinal?  You’ll see a lot of cardinals in our home.  My grandmother loved them. She passed away a few months back and I’ve used the cardinals in honor of her.

This is what the mantel looks like now with all of our stockings.  My parents and sisters family are included.

I decided to make stocking tags instead of writing names on the stockings themselves.  I really like how they came out.

The mantel at night.

I love this purple tree.  My sister had gotten it for our mom last year.  Moms favorite color is purple.  I like that it looks kinda wintry.  I’ve placed a few cardinals on it and a couple of cardinal candles underneath.

Pun intended, I love this guy.  It’s one of the first pieces I bought after the house fire.

I placed some pine-cones and a few snowball ornaments in this sconce.

My faux mantel.  You can read about that great nativity scene and see a tutorial for the tissue paper trees here

I got these two hanging ornaments from the $ store.

I got Alie this cute lil snowman countdown calender from Target.  I added the little maroon bow to tie it in!

This is the buffet in the hall.

You can see how my Advent Book Mantel turned into that cute gift box here.

I loved seeing all the ornament filled vases and decided to make one too.  I placed it beside some cute glitter 3d trees I found at Target.

I have a Christmas basket full of pine-cones.

Also in the hall, I hung up Keek’s stocking.

He is my beloved nephew who now spends Christmas in heaven with Jesus.

You can read more about him here. AliLilly One day at the grocery store, I was taking out all the random things Alie had placed in the basket.  I took out a car and she instantly got upset.  Not the fussy or whiny upset but the brokenhearted upset.  When I asked her why she was so sad she told me this “that’s Keek’s car, mama.  I got it for Keek.”  Talk about a tearjerker!  Well, we got the car for Keek and it’s now in his stocking!

Speaking of my sweet Alie Marie, you have to see what her daddy did to her play house!  It’s just too cute!! He turned it into a Holiday Playhouse by adding some gold tinsel garland and the tissue paper wreath I made last year.

Here is Alie and her cousin April playing in her holiday play house!

David decorated her lil play area and even put up an extra tree we had.

This is what it looks like at night.  Unfortunately, we had a bad storm come thru that knocked over the tree.  I can’t get the top of the tree to light up now!!  BUT we got some MUCH NEEDED rain down here in Texas!!

David put up some C9’s over the table too.  I think it looks great!

This is the front of our home.  We scored that adorable Mickey and Minnie lawn inflatable at Kroger for $23!  All the Christmas decor is 40% off right now!!

Alie loved it so much she sat down next to it and started to play with Mickey!

So, that’s our holiday home for 2011!  I’m so happy with it!
Here are a few more Holiday pics! Our sweet Alie and Santa.

Alie and her cousins April and Angie in Galveston.

Alie’s first candy cane reindeer!

My holiday girl!

And it wouldn’t be winter without a new winter hat!  Alie picked this one out for me!! :p

Thanks so much for stopping by!

Our Pretty Christmas Mantel

7 Dec

My Christmas Mantel this year was so easy to put together.  I added some lighted garland,  a few new tissue paper trees,  a few candles,  hanging ornaments, nut crackers, some pine cones and a re-decorated wreath.
I found an old wreath in my mom’s garage. Took everything off of it.  I then added some cute Santa ribbon she had to it and a few new Christmas pics.

I added a cardinal at the top in honor of my Grandma.  She passed away a few months back and she absolutely loved cardinals.

Now, the plug from my lighted garland was hanging out looking like a big brown eye sore!

I found a few of these doo-dads (they are called doo-dads when the hubby isn’t around to properly name them for me)!!

And VIOLA, no more ugly brown cord sticking out!!

Here are a few more pictures of our mantel.

So, what do y’all think??

Christmas Advent Calender with Books

1 Dec
I totally intended to have this post done about a week or so before December!  I had this idea picked out over a month ago after seeing it this.
Source

I LITERALLY, finished wrapping the books TODAY!  Yes, December 1st!  Talk about LAST MINUTE eh?  But, that’s life right?
So, anywho….this is Alie’s Christmas Advent Calender made with books.

My precious niece Lauren donated most of the books to her a while back.  I included a lot of Christmas books as well.

I wrapped the books in tissue paper.  Used paint chip samples for the tags along with Christmas stickers.  Trying to find 24 matching tags is a feat in it self!
I had planned on placing the books on this mantel.  But as you can see they weren’t going to fit!

But check out these beautiful wintry paintings I found at my Grandma’s house.  I LOVE them.

Now, this is my “REAL” mantel and well….I wanted it back.  I saw this cute idea on Blue Cricket Design this morning.

Source
So, I took the box that I had stored the books in and wrapped it with some shiny red paper and made a bow.

Super cute huh?  I can’t wait to have Alie unwrap them each day!!  I am REALLY excited for tonight.  Book 1 is….Twas the Night before Christmas!
Thanks for stopping by!

Tissue Paper Tree Tutorial

18 Nov
Y’all asked….and so here it is!!  The Tissue Paper Christmas Tree Tutorial!!

First you will need…
 tissue paper
printer paper
scissors
pencil
tape
and hot glue.
If you use white school glue this becomes a fun kid friendly project.  However, it takes a bit longer to hold each tissue in place and well….I’m impatient!  I have done this with Alie before and she had a lot of fun making tissue trees with me.
I find it’s easiest to fold several pieces of tissue paper into a thin long strip and cut inch wide strips from it.  Then unwind the strips and cut squares from it.
Using a piece of printer paper form a cone and tape it together.
Trim the bottom so that it stands up straight.

Take a pencil and place the square over the eraser and fold down. Then place a dab of hot glue onto the top.

Then start placing the little squares onto the cone.  Those lines I placed to help as a guide.  I decided to make this one a peppermint twist tree!!

Keep placing the folded squares close together.

Almost done!!
Make sure to fill in all the bald spots…

Fluff up the spots that got squished by fingers…
Clean up the glue strings and keep filling in the bald spots…
Trim the pieces that are too long…
Now, we’re finished!!  Super cute huh??
I hope this is a helpful tutorial.  I would LOVE to see if you give it a try!

Thanks so much for stopping by!!!
