Bright and Cheery Spring Mantel

21 Mar
I’ve noticed that my sense of style for my home revolves around Alice.  Last year I went with soft pretty pastels, as Alice was still in toddler mode. She had a sweet soft squeaky voice.  She wore lots of soft pastels.  This year the sweet squeaky voice is a little bit more grown up.  She likes to wear bright happy colors.  She’s rambunctious, full of life and always happy.  She is definitely a CHEERY kind of girl.  I noticed all this last night while I was taking pictures of the mantel and thinking of last years.
I used an old sheet that once belonged to my precious nephew Khaleeq.  Khaleeq is now a precious angel in Heaven above.  With this, my wreath now has a sweet sentimental value doesn’t it?  My hubby gave me the idea to add the pom pom flowers and ladybugs.  I especially love the ladybugs, they are Alice’s favorite.  Her nursery was all ladybugs and she was even a ladybug for her first Halloween.  The wreath was just too small to hang on the shutters by itself.  So, I made a pennant banner from the sheet.  I love the way they look together.

I plan on writing up a tutorial on how to make this wreath later this weekend.  It’s so easy, y’all will LOVE it!

I use more of Khaleeq’s sheet and wrapped these candles.  I left the burlap on a couple of the candles I had decorated for Valentine’s day and added matching green flowers.
I added our Bless this Family piece my hubby bought next to the candles.
For the other side, I added an antique glass bottle that was once my Grandma’s, a couple little glass jars filled with green glass beads and tied with burlap, an Easter cross I found at Walmart and my newly painted candle holder (sometimes cake stand) with a sweet bright red ceramic bird on top.
Here is my spring mantel all together!

What do y’all think??  I’m really happy with it!  Make sure you come back later this week to see how to make this cute wreath.

10 Faith Based Kids Crafts for Easter

15 Mar

I’m finding it a little bit challenging to teach my 3yr old what Easter really means.  Trying to distract her from the Easter bunny and coloring eggs with biblical lessons and literature is a just not working.  Go figure that one! HAHA!  I’m not sure that would work on a 13 yr old.  So, I’ve been looking for clever and crafty ideas to show her.  And I found some really great ideas that I would LOVE to share.

There she is, my precious girl!  See her cute painting?  I found that idea on Ministry to Children.  It is SUPER simple to do.  You take paper, using tape make a cross on the paper, hand your kids some water colors and have them paint around the cross, pull off the tape and you have a beautiful handmade piece of Easter art work to cherish forever!!  On the site there is a bit of discussion about the tape pealing off the paper or tearing because of being wet.  I found that if I used medium cardstock and let the painting dry before pealing the tape off it worked out perfectly.

NoBunny Loves You like Jesus
Over at Detail-Oriented Diva, Natalie has made some SUPER cute Christian based Easter basket fillers.  She made those cute NoBunny Loves You like Jesus goodie bags up there.  Now, I know these aren’t necessarily crafts but if you get your kids to help you make them as gifts….well then it’s a CRAFT!  She also made these…
Jesus Cares!
Be Fishers of Men
I love them!  It’s so hard to find faith based fillers for Easter baskets these days.  She includes jpg images so you can print your own labels and make these treat bags for your kids baskets too.  And she made a girl and boy version of each printable.

Resurrection Rolls

I’ve seen these before, heard of them but never made Resurrection Rolls.  This year I’m really excited to try this.  Alice is old enough now to understand the whats and whys of this project.  It’s the PERFECT time and I found a great post at Homegrown Mom for them.  It’s nicely detailed which is great for someone like me, who is making them for the first time.  I know, it seems simple enough right?  Especially for those of you that have made these.  But trust me, I can screw up boiling water!!  So, I greatly appreciate detail and explanation!!  She even gives her input and ideas in how she presents and works out the lessons involved.

Jelly Bean Prayer Easter Gift
At Mama Jenn I found another great idea.  You fill a jar full of jelly beans, attach the jelly bean Easter payer and you have a sweat and cute Easter gift that teaches you about the meaning of Easter.  Each color represents something specific about Easter.
Jelly Bean Cross Craft
And then I found the same idea but with a cross at Apples for Teachers.  You cut out a cross from paper then write or print the poem on the cross.  Then cut out cute little jelly bean shapes in all the colors of the poem and have your kids glue the jelly beans onto the cut out cross.

I also found at Mama Jenn this cute idea for a homemade Easter hat that is perfect to make with your kids.  She was inspired to make this with her daughter after reading two special Easter books about Easter Hats.  They made this sweet hat here from a paper plate, paper bowl, paint, ribbon, glue and fake flowers.

At My Bible Crafts, I found this cute New Creature Butterfly Card.  The site includes printables, instructions and ideas on how to talk about meaning of being a new creature in Christ while creating this card with your kids.
Last year Alie and I (mostly me) made this Tissue Paper Cross as an Easter decoration in her room.  This year, now that she’s a little holder I can’t wait to make some with her.  This is a fun craft to do with your kids and so I HAVE TO share it with y’all!! 🙂
If y’all have any other great ideas, posts or tutorials on faith based Easter crafts for kids I would LOVE to hear them.  Please share!!  I’m a newbie at this, so I need all the help I can get.  I was raised in a Muslim home (my dad COMPLETELY respects my decision to make Jesus my Lord and Savior) and I gave my life to Christ just 13 yrs ago.  Now that I’m raising Alice and teaching her about Jesus, I suddenly feel like I first opened my bible last week!!  It’s amazing the questions she will ask me about Jesus and it’s so disappointing when I stammer and stutter trying to find an answer.  So any help, advice or tips are highly welcome and appreciated.

I hope y’all love these ideas as much as I do!  I can’t wait to show you when Alie and I work on them together.

UPDATE!!  I found a few more great Easter ideas I wanted to share!!
At Mom On Timeout, Trish shares how to make these awesome Coin Covered PAID IN FULL Crosses!
And at This Little Project, Jedda shares several Faith Based Easter Craft projects

Time Management 101??

3 Jan

HELP!!!???!!!
I am TERRIBLE when I comes to time management.  I spend WAY to much time on Facebook, in the blogsphere, on pinterest!!  Then, the next thing I know it’s closing in on dinner time, the house is a wreck and my Alie is STILL in her PJ’s!  I want to find more time to be with her.  Find more time to be with my husband at the end of the day.

Source

I get frustrated, angry and sometimes sad.  I see all these amazing posts, projects, and craftiness and I think I can’t even find the time just to look at them, let alone create and post!  It’s so overwhelming.  Where do “THEY” find the time!  Ya know who “they” are!  Those amazing bloggers we all look up too.  How to they do it??  Any one know?  Any tips?  Advice??

Source

I will add this, I saw a post a while back from the lovely Shelley with House of Smiths, about running out of pre-scheduled posts.  I got me thinking and so I have actually complied a list of TO DO’s in my calender of Christmas and New Years ideas.  They are actually things I did this year but didn’t have the time to post.  So, this way I will have a few things already ready!!  I’m kinda excited about this new idea. Maybe I can do THAT more often.  Plan ahead instead of the usual mad dash to get a post done before said link party ends!  We’ll see how it works out, huh?
I want to take the time to be a better mom.

Teach Alice, have fun with her, love and nurture her.  I want to be a better wife, a better daughter, sister, aunt and friend.
And then, I also want to be a better blogger.  I get so frustrated sometimes that I just want to quit.  Truth be told, I LOVE blogging.  I love losing myself in the blogsphere.  I love being inspired and being the inspire-er.  I love reading and seeing other mom’s achievements, hopes, accomplishments, struggles.  It helps me get through my day.  And I hope to do the same for y’all.
it all comes down to this…

AND on a small side note: to add to things I don’t have time to do already, I have decided I want to do a photo challenge!  They seem like fun.  Anyone wanna do one with me?  Would it be fun to MAYBE do a link party at the end and everyone link up their pics?  All complied into one post right?
I found this on pinterest….

What I Wore Yesterday!

8 Dec

I TOTALLY intended on doing this silly post yesterday.  On the NATIONAL bloggers What I Wore Wednesday day.  BUT, I was distracted by a dumb cold! *sniffle sniffle cough*  I hate being sick.  But really, who doesn’t, so I’ll spare you my whining.  I will tell y’all that my awesome husband cut in to his beloved Call Of Duty game time to go on a “late night lets find the pharmacy that is still open” wild goose chase to find me some meds that ACTUALLY WORK!  Ya know, the kind they keep BEHIND the counter!!  Anywho, I’m all drugged up and ready for this silly post. disclaimer: I can not be help responsible for the idiocy of this post while on cold and sinus medicine.
OK.  I am hoping to someday have the GUTS to post myself outfits for WIWW.  I desperately need the fashion advice!!  I actually have been “experimenting” with the concept on Facebook.  I’ve posted a few pics of me to see what kind of feedback I would get and well…to just be a lil more comfortable doing it!
I have some super great blog friends that do it on a regular basis!  My gorgeous friend Kassi from Truly Lovely, the inspiration behind this silliness today, is a regular WIWW participant!

The lovely Bella with Bella Before and After always has the best pictures for WIWW.

Beautiful Mandy with Sugar Bee Crafts, is a PRO at WIWW!

And my super adorable friend Sunny with Life in Rehab does a hilarious version of WIWW she likes to call, What the &;%$#@ Are You Wearing Wednesday!  It usually involves her adorable minions or her cats and dogs!

So, how did my silly 1st submission to WIWW happen.  Well, like I mentioned up there, I’m sick.  You know when your sick you end up in “comfy” clothes.  Add to that that is is FAH-REEZING in H-town right now.  It was in the low 30’s yesterday morning when I snapped the pic!  I was chillin’ on the bed watch the morning news when I looked down and really noticed what I had one.  I thought of my friend Kassi, and thought to myself  “she would crack up if I posted this outfit for WIWW!…..oh wait…..it IS Wednesday” .
But then breakfast, a 3 yr old princess, a 17 yr old cat who acts like you haven’t fed it in 10 yrs and a cold….and I forgot.  So, I’m a day late…but I still have my $.  Did you get that?  Does anyone still use that phrase?  Ha!  Anywho, this is what I wore yesterday….what my hubby came home too! LOL

Awesome yes?  Keep in mind too, that I’m wearing a black and white striped t-shirt!! LOL! In all seriousness, those slipper socks are the most amazing things ever!!
Thanks for stopping by y’all!

Happy Mother’s Day

8 May

This is my Dad, my sister Kari, me and my Mom.  My sister Nori hadn’t shown up yet!  Check out my Dad in that suit and that grin!! HAHA!

I want to introduce y’all to my wonderful Mommy and all the other great mommy’s that are in my life.

My mommy!

The is my Mom and Dad on their wedding day.  My Dad is Pakistani, my Mom is Scottish.  My Mom wore the traditional Pakistani wedding attire.

I love my Mommy more than words can describe.  I miss her so much.  She’s back home in Texas and I haven’t seen her in a year.  I really miss her.  She is a wonderful mother.  Loving, giving and understanding.  She has always put everyone’s needs before her.  She has taught, guided and helped me become the mother I am today.  And if you ask my Alie she’ll tell you I’m a pretty great mommy!!

And that leads up to me becoming a mom.  Being a mom is joyous, beautiful, rewarding, challenging, tiresome, fun, exciting, but most of all, being a mom is the greatest gift and  blessing God has bestowed upon me.  I love my daughter with a love so deep in my heart and in my soul.  It’s more wondrous than I ever imagined.  It’s also hard and challenging.  There are days when I am Super Mom and I’m so proud but then there are days when I’m ashamed of my lack of patience and direction.   But everyday I am loved and needed beyond measure by the sweetest little girl in the whole wide world.  And everyday I love her and need her more than I could of ever imagine!  Loving my daughter and being a mom also makes me love my husband even more.  It’s beautiful the cycle of love in my life.  I am so happy and so blessed.  Now, every child is a miracle from God but my Alice Marie is my extra special miracle from God.  If you’d like to read that story you can do so here.

Now, I have a baking partner!
Someone to help me with the dishes.

A crafting partner.
A princess to dance with!
And tea parties every day!

I’m so proud to be her mommy.

I have also been a step mom to our beautiful Marlayna Renee for more than 13 years.

I would also like to wish a Happy Mother’s Day to my sweet mother in law.

Happy Mother’s Day to my sister Nori.  I miss you, the girls and Keek SO MUCH!!!
This is my favorite picture of Nori and me!

These are her beautiful girls!

And her amazing son Khaleeq who is now an angel in Heaven.

You can read his story here.

AliLilly  I would also like to wish a Happy Mother’s Day to the BESTEST AUNTIE there ever was!!  My sister Kari, who Alie just absolutely ADORES!!!

Kari is also an amazing Auntie to my nephew Jayden!

Happy Mother’s Day to my wonderful Sisters In Law. Teresa with her children, Jacob, Lauren, and Gabriel.  Her blog is called Get Nestled In.

Julie with her son, Jayden!  Julie NEEDS to blog!

Emily with her precious Emma.  Emily is the author of  Decorchick!

and Donna with her kids, Jesse and Ava Grace.

HAPPY MOTHER’S DAY to all the wonderful mommy’s out there!!
