My Sentimental Halloween Wreath

23 Sep

Do y’all remember this cute tutu I made Alie two years ago??

*sigh* OH, my cute lil girl!!  It’s also the FIRST tutu I ever made and her first tutu also!!  Obviously, it doesn’t fit any longer.  And so I came up with a way to SAVE it.  I made a Halloween Wreath out of it.  So, now we will always have that first lil tutu!
It was really easy too!  I just took off all the little strips. Which, if you follow 90% of the tutu tutorials out there, the strips will just slide off and open once you cut the elastic.  Then I used this wreath form.

I realized I was going to have to cover the wreath with something.

I didn’t have any burlap.  I didn’t have any fabric or ribbon that I wanted to hide under tulle.  So, I tore strips of orange tissue paper and glued it to the wreath.

Then I tied the tulle strips on the wreath.  Added an orange ribbon.  And made an orange moon and black bat out of some left over paint chip samples.

SO CUTE RIGHT??  I love it!

My daughter is a Princess!!

26 Oct

Who isn’t struggling financial right now?!!  With Halloween around the corner, David and I were a little worried about what to do for our sweet little Alie.  She is ALL THINGS PRINCESS right now.  We found a few cute princess costumes for $20.  Which is still pretty steep for a poorly made costume.  Have you ever noticed how cheap the material is or how cheaply they are thrown together.  Last Halloween she was a little Halloween Ballerina.  I made her an orange and black tutu and paired it with a cute Halloween shirt and a pair of black tights.  My husband works at Grand Canyon University, so we attended the GCU Fall Festival last year.  Alie the Halloween Ballerina, was a TOTAL HIT. SO….I think, I can make her a tutu princess!  As I looked for inspiration online, the concept morphed a little into a long tutu princess dress.  I used a shirt she already had.  I made a long white and pink tulle tutu and attached it to the top.  I stitched stain ribbon on the shirt’s sleeves and collar.   I attached satin ribbon over the area, then I attached the skirt to the top.  Since I am ALL ABOUT the rosettes right now, I made a BUNCH!  I glued them onto the ribbon waist.  I also made a bouquet of different rosettes to go over  some embroidery that was on her shirt.  Then I attached some ribbons to the shirt and a large ribbon in the back as a tie.  She LOVES it.  I LOVE IT!  It was so much fun making it for her.  I feels so sweet knowing I made that for her.  OH and the total cost was $14!!  Did you know Dollar Tree sells tulle and ribbons!??  I got the pink tulle at Walmart, 65 yards for $6!

This is Alie’s Halloween Tutu I made her last year.

Alie’s Mommy made Princess Costume!

So cute right?  Now, I can’t wait to make her something next year!  My hubby knows all I want for Christmas is a sewing machine.  I can’t wait to make pretty stuff for our princess!  I would love to hear what you think?  Thanks for stopping by!

Etsy is once again open for business!!

29 Jun
Alililly is open for business!  I am so excited to be up and running again. I woke up a lil too early this morning and could not go back to sleep.  My mind was swimming with new etsy ideas.  I have quite a few new pieces of jewelry to add to the shop as well.
We celebrated my sister Kari’s birthday at my brothers new house over the weekend. Alie wore an adorable tutu dress just for the occasion.  My sister and sister in law commented that it looked like something I had made.  This being a complement and not an insult got my mind storming for new tutu ideas.  I keep promising tutu’s are coming soon.  This time I mean it!  I would LOVE to learn how to sew, would make the tutu adventure a bit easier.  This is the dress Alie wore.

See the potential!! I would so enjoy making this for anyone.  Can you see all the different colors that it could be.  OH I am so excited I can’t wait to be busy.

OH and everyone say HAPPY BIRTHDAY to my sister! 🙂

To the Future….

6 Feb
So last night, at about 1 am, my head was swimming with a new blog post.  I knew it had been a while since my last and I needed one.  Now, I am sitting here and I can not think of anything.  I can only tell you that last night, I had a perfect and witty one written in my head.

What I can tell you is I am really falling in love with making jewelry.  Yes, it is a long and tedious task, but the end result is so satisfying!  I think I am getting better at it.  I am excited to keep going and see just where I can take my skills.  It is a little disheartening knowing what a huge and over crowed category I have chosen on Etsy.  Somewhere someone will like my jewelry.  I know I do.  This is good; because I would not want to sell something I would not wear myself.  This leads to a “Thank You” for my sister Kari, who told me that I should always wear my jewelry when I go anywhere.  Like a walking advertisement.

Right now, things are slow and I am itching to make more.  I must hold off just for a few weeks.  We are moving!!  My Husband, our daughter and I, are moving into our own place.  We have been living with my brother, his wife and new baby boy.  We are from Houston, Texas.  My husband was offered a job with Grand Canyon University.  So, we packed up everything and towed our car with the three of us in a U-Haul and trucked our way to AZ.  After 6 months of all living in one small two bedroom apartment, I am overly excited to get into our new place.   Alice will have her own room and bathroom.  I’ll post pictures of how we set things up.

So be expecting those. And….

New jewelry and TUTU’s are coming!!

Yesterday was SO exciting! It was AliLilly’s Opening Day!!

I could hardly sleep the night before just knowing that I would be adding all the items I’d been working on last week. I woke up early, took care of the sweet baby girl. Then, I started adding my items. I sold my very first necklace before I even added item 2! It was so exciting! Now, I have a new list of things to consider. I’m deciding whether I should send my handmade creations in an envelope? I want to buy some groovy looking tissue paper to wrap it in. Insert a thank you note, a business card, and the receipt. Then, place it in a cute box with a pretty tie around it. However, I have some budget restraints. Which is why I decided to do all this in the first place. In time Ami, all in time. I keep telling myself that.

My husband is excited now too! He bought me a new jewelry kit to work with. The kit is a bit intimidating, but, I am excited at the same time that I will be learning new techniques and sharpening my skills! It’s full of all these tiny pieces. I also needed a tool kit…..HA! a tool kit! I can’t wait to see how I do. There is just so much potential with this little adventure I’m on.

Next uptutu’s!!
